BCE — Before the Common Era — словосочетание с достаточно расплывчатым смыслом, которое, тем не менее, прижилось у иудеев, т. к. неприемлемый христианский элемент был убран. Таким же образом CE (Common Era — наша эра), иногда заменяет более распространённое AD (Anno Domini — лат. «в лето господне»).
